Why shop at Tulips Lingerie?
Selected as the BEST LINGERIE STORE in the Delaware Valley for 2007 and 2008 by MyFOXPhilly.com. Tulips also received the 2008 Montgomery County Neighbor’s Choice Award from the Philadelphia Inquirer. More importantly, Tulips Lingerie is a BOC Certified Facility and is considered “in-network” by most major health insurance carriers.

When should you first visit Tulips Lingerie?
Before your surgery so you can become familiar with all of the post-surgery products available.

Do I need an appointment?
It's best to schedule one to be sure that a Certified Mastectomy Fitter is on site, or you can just call ahead to make certain that one is available. Also, don't forget you will need to bring your prescription and your insurance card..

What do you wear home from the hospital?
Post-surgical camisoles or leisure bras are available that will provide support and discretely accommodate the surgical drains and are usually worn for the first 4 to 6 weeks after surgery. When your doctor determines you’re ready, you will be given a prescription for your breast prosthesis and mastectomy bras.

How soon after your surgery can you be fitted for prosthesis?
Ideally we suggest 4 to 6 weeks post surgery to allow enough time for your incision to heal completely.

Why do you need a prosthesis?
Besides aesthetic appearance, wearing a correctly fit and weighted breast form that matches a remaining breast in size and shape helps to replace the breast weight and keeps the body's equilibrium and alignment evenly balanced. Using a breast prosthesis can restore your feminine shape and bring back a feeling of balance. It can help to restore your self confidence and ultimately improve your quality of life after breast surgery. Not replacing lost breast tissue weight can cause back, neck and shoulder problems, therefore it’s important to wear a properly fitted and weighted form to help prevent the development of spinal curvature, neck and back pain, or shoulder drooping.

What types of breast forms are available and what are they made of?
Tulips Lingerie has a full range of full or partial breast forms and symmetry shapers to accommodate women who have had a mastectomy, a lumpectomy and/or breast reconstruction. The majority of weighted breast prostheses are made of silicone gel, but there are also some made of foam.

Can you only wear mastectomy bras?
Although, we have a great selection of mastectomy bras, you can take advantage of our expert alterations and add a prosthesis pocket to any of our bras.

Why should you be fitted by a Certified Mastectomy Fitter (CMF)?
Simply, because every woman is different. There are many different sizes, styles and shapes that have been designed to match a woman’s remaining breast. A certified mastectomy fitter has completed a minimum of 500 fitting hours, passed a standardized test from the BOC and is trained to measure and select the proper prosthesis for each individual. CMFs must also complete continuing education to retain their certification.

How often should you change your bra and prosthesis?
In general, a fitting should be checked annually. Your body changes over time and it’s important that your fit and weight are still accurate. Our CMFs can check your fitting and make any necessary recommendations. Most health insurance providers will authorize reimbursement for four (4) bras per year and a new breast form every two (2) years.

Will you be able to tell that I am wearing a breast form/prosthesis?
Absolutely not. If your are wearing a properly fitted breast form (prosthesis), no one will be able to tell. Your breast prosthetic will have the weight, feel and form of your remaining breast.

What are the advantages of shopping at an “in-network” health insurance provider?
